We'd do a free inspection, send a proposal, and then hope the homeowner called us back. A lot of them just never did.
The problem
Dennis ran sales for a roofing company that offered free inspections after storms, generating a lot of leads and proposals, but his reps rarely had time to follow up more than once after sending a quote. Plenty of homeowners who genuinely needed a new roof simply let the proposal sit until they forgot about it or another roofer beat them to it.
What changed
He set up a follow up call two or three days after every proposal was sent, checking whether the homeowner had questions, especially about insurance claims and financing, which were the two most common hesitations.
The result
Dennis said the follow up calls surfaced insurance confusion far more often than his reps expected, and once that got addressed directly, close rates on proposals improved noticeably. He said it felt like recovering deals that were already sitting there, just stuck.
We'd do a free inspection, send a proposal, and then hope the homeowner called us back. A lot of them just never did.
